Meet Our Founder
From the flight deck to the Mediterranean
My name is Eric Zimmermann, founder and Managing Director of Top Yachts.
Top Yachts brings together two worlds that have shaped most of my professional life: aviation and yachting.
For 25 years, I worked in international aviation, flying long-haul aircraft including the Boeing 777 and Boeing 747 and serving as an airline captain with airlines including Emirates.
Aviation taught me lessons that have stayed with me throughout my career: prepare thoroughly, take responsibility, remain calm when decisions matter and never compromise on safety.
It also taught me something equally important — that outstanding service is ultimately about people.
A passion for yachting became a profession
My connection with boating and yachting began almost two decades ago.
What started as a personal passion gradually developed into a second professional career. As I stepped back from aviation, I spent several years working as a yacht captain within the charter industry, gaining first-hand experience of yacht operations, crew leadership and guest service.
Those years confirmed something I strongly believe today:
the best charter experiences feel effortless to the guest because a great deal of thought has gone into them behind the scenes.
A capable crew, thoughtful preparation and genuine hospitality make all the difference.
Throughout my maritime career, I have also had the privilege of learning from highly experienced instructors, captains and yacht professionals. Their knowledge — including experience aboard larger superyachts and managing substantial crews — gave me valuable insight into the standards, organisation and leadership required in professional yachting.
Many of the principles felt familiar from aviation. Others were unique to life at sea.
Together, they shaped the philosophy behind Top Yachts.
Why I founded Top Yachts
I created Top Yachts Charter to offer something I felt should be at the heart of every yacht company:
professional standards without losing the human touch.
Our operations are built around preparation, safety and responsibility, while our guest experience is centred around warmth, discretion and attentive service.
The same philosophy influences the people we choose to work with. From experienced yacht captains to former Emirates First Class cabin crew, we look for individuals who understand that genuine hospitality is not about formality — it is about noticing what people need before they have to ask.
Ultimately, our job is to make everything feel simple.
